Neuroradiology is the subspecialty of diagnostic radiology that is focused specifically on the imaging of diseases of the brain and spine. Imaging modalities such as computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), myelography, and angiography are the most common tools neuroradiologists utilize to accomplish this task
Interventional neuroradiology is a subspecialty within neuroradiology involved in the treatment of diseases such as intracranial aneurysms, vascular malformations, certain vascular tumors, and osteoporotic compression fractures of the spine. The neuroradiologist uses minimally invasive (nonsurgical) techniques with wires, catheters, biopsy needles and tubes placed through small incisions in the skin to perform the treatments.
